Joe Leung serves as an Engineer at Mitsubishi Electric Hong Kong. He is responsible for project management of the Public Utility System in the Social Infrastructure Division, which involves leading contractors to achieve project objectives and client requirements, co-ordinating with overseas manufacturers and managing after-sales services on a routine basis.
Prior to COVID-19, whenever Joe felt tired at work, he would get up and chat with his colleagues about work-related problems or hear a first-hand update on current affairs to stimulate his mind. He also enjoyed walking around and taking in the scenery until he felt refreshed and recharged.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Joe's company arranged for him to work from home for 2 or 3 days a week. On such days, as a way to refresh himself, Joe goes for walks in the garden near his apartment and stretches to relieve stress.
Like many people these days, Joe's work involves sitting in front of a computer or looking at a mobile phone for 8 to 10 hours every day. When performing such tasks, people tend to slump their shoulders and droop their heads, which can have a negative impact on health. Also, Joe says, when he is under stress, his muscles tend to tense up. To counter this, he likes to stretch his pectoralis, upper trapezius and hamstring muscles in order to alleviate musculoskeletal pain and help to straighten his alignment. These exercises have the added benefits of improving posture and relieving stress.
